The canal-side patio was good for meals, and the friendly staff provided a spare travel adapter when I needed one.

- Free parking spaces directly at the hotel. - The breakfast is very good. - The room and the bathroom are large. - Everything is very clean. - In the brasserie you can have a good and not too expensive dinner
- The rooms have curtains that do not ensure complete darkness at night, so that light-sensitive people cannot sleep at sunrise in the morning. - Although I had booked a double bed, we got a room with 2 separate beds that had been pushed together but in the course of the night moved apart again. - On the weekends there is no shuttle service. Those who do not want to walk a good 30 minutes on foot have to take the bus (line 43). For 2 persons there and back the trip costs 17,80 Euro. - The towels are changed every day, even if you don't put them on the floor. This seems to me - mainly for ecological reasons - exaggerated. -The room looks quite dark, even when all lights are on

Riverside location of this old-fashioned hotel was a bonus. Moreover, it was 4 km from a national archaeological museum.

waterside location
Beautiful hotel but restaurant understaffed at breakfast where there were irritating waits for food to be replenished and the doors to the outside terrace to be opened. Dangerously scalding water in the shower cubicle where the controls required an expert and subtle touch meant that we felt forced to use the bath instead. (Room 215)

The location is very nice, the rooms generously and comfortably furnished. In our room to the inner courtyard you could sleep well despite the open window without noise (the birds were the loudest!) The hotel is no longer brand new, but everything is clean and the room service very good. The location of the terrace on the water has the advantage that you can be picked up directly from the hotel by boat for a canal cruise.
Breakfast was average, I would have expected more for the price - especially fresh vegetables and fruit was very rare. The food in the restaurant was good, but not outstanding either. The service in the restaurant partly very nice and partly again really unfriendly - on the 1st evening there was also a German menu without any problems - on the 2nd evening we were told that they didn't exist. At breakfast my husband wanted some ham and onions on the fried eggs - which was ready there - the older lady said that this was only for omlets - very strange service. Communication is difficult without sufficient language skills in English or Dutch.

Staying here with my two sons was fantastic! We explored the Naturalis museum, which captivated the boys with its interactive displays on life's early beginnings. The spacious Comfort Triple Room made for a relaxing family base after our adventures.
My kids wished for more kid-friendly menu options.

I've stayed at the van der valk a few times and always found it comfortable although a bit out of town. Breakfast is very comprehensive.

It was very near to the American School which we were visiting.
We had the basement room and no balcony. I hope the price was discounted because of this. I don't like not having a coffee maker or tea in the room and breakfast is not included in the price. A small breakfast with a smaller charge would be a better option.

Spacious room with comfy beds, a nice balcony, and a minibar. The breakfast had fresh fruits and good coffee options. The scenic terrace overlooking the canal was perfect for meals. Rental bikes were available to explore the area. Efficient check-in process made settling in easy.

The hotel has a pleasant ambiance and is situated outside of the larger cities of Amsterdam and the Hague, but is easy to access in Leiden. The environment was restful and attractive, the facilities were tasteful, and the breakfast buffet was quite good. The staff was attentive. I liked the ambiance of the bar/lounge, as well, with the gas fire. I would recommend the hotel to others in the future, as the price was also very reasonable.

Everything was simply nice. Had very pleasant stay with fantastic value for money and amazing breakfast. The location of the hotel was amazing and beautiful, close to old city center. The food was outstanding and the staff was amiable. They helped us get a shuttle to the downtown.

The hotel's waterfront location and friendly staff make for a pleasant experience, although the room cleanliness could use a bit more attention. Dinner was average, and we encountered some billing issues that dampened the overall enjoyment, but the breakfast spread was impressive.
